More Tech Tips Everyone Knew Before You

Don’t be the last person in your office who believes the megapixel value on your camera is the ruling factor in quality, or that computer windows cannot be adjusted. Here are even more tips to keep you on top of your game:

  • Stop clicking e-mail links. There’s a reason they’re commonly disabled, and that’s because they often are phishing for your personal information. Type in the site address manually, rather than trusting an email.
  • If your boss enters the room while you are playing blackjack, simply hold the windows key and click ‘D’ before he notices. This will minimize everything, showing just your desktop. When he moves past you, click it again to bring back up your game.
  • Marketing has spread the idea that mega-pixels are the value sales point in camera technology, when in fact, sensor size is equally imperative. Make sure you remember this before you buy another camera.
  • The size of any window can be adjusted. On a Mac, just drag the corner on the lower-right. For a PC, hover over any edge to adjust the size.
  • Every school kid already knows this: Google can do your homework for you. Enter mathematical equations, and it will compute them in your results. If you enter “72*15/8=” as a search query, it will answer it as quickly as any calculator.
  • Don’t be the guy in the office who sends 18 pictures as separate files in an email. Zip them, or use a program like Picasa which will automatically size & organize images. Also, this will prevent messages from bouncing back to you and emails from being rejected by your server.
  • Before you download another plugin or addon, check community reviews. They’re a free resource which will tell you honestly the best and worst aspects of a plugin, so why not ask?
  • Use freeware multimedia programs to manage and view any videos or movies. Programs like Handbrake, XVid and Virtual Dub are free and work on most operating systems and with multiple media types. Now you never have to admit that you don’t know how to transfer a file or download a media file again.
